1. Overview

Financials for Jira is a Forge-based Jira Cloud app that helps teams record, track and manage project-related financial transactions - revenue, costs or both - directly inside Jira.

By combining planned and actual financial data in one place, the app gives project teams and administrators a clear view of a project's financial status without leaving Jira.

1.1 What it does

When you open Financials for Jira from the space sidebar, you can:

  • Create a project, track its revenue and costs, and assess its financial performance.

  • Define Revenue and Cost Plans to set expected financial targets for a project.

  • Record Revenue and Cost Actuals to capture what was actually received or spent.

  • Organize financial data using Categories, Groups, Companies, and Statuses.

  • Support multiple currencies within a single project using exchange ratios.

  • Schedule recurring plans using repeat options with Per Each or Total distribution methods.

  • Link financial records to specific Jira issues to trace costs and revenue back to work items.

  • View a financial summary for each project through the Overview Panel.

  • Capture point-in-time snapshots with Baselines to preserve plan versions, compare changes over time, and understand how project expectations evolve.

  • Control who can view, create, edit, or administer financial data using global and project-level permissions.

 1.2 When to use it

Project budget planning

Set up Revenue and Cost Plans before a project begins to define financial targets and expected spend.

Cost tracking

Record actual costs as they are incurred to monitor spending against the plan in real time.

Revenue monitoring

Log revenue actuals to track income and compare it against planned targets.

Multi-currency projects

Manage financial data across different currencies by defining exchange ratios per entry.

Financial reporting

Use the Overview Panel to review a consolidated summary of planned vs. actual figures for any project.

1.3 How it works

Financials for Jira runs inside Jira as an Atlassian Forge app. It uses Jira APIs to read project and issue data and stores all financial records - projects, plans, actuals, and configuration - within Atlassian's Forge-hosted storage. No data is sent to or processed by external servers.

Financials for Jira defines the scope of each financial project through the Scope field. You can select a Jira project, a saved filter, or custom JQL to determine which work items can be associated with the financial project. Jira project permissions and Financials for Jira permissions are managed separately.
